Financial Development
There are many ways to provide financial support to continue the humanitarian work of the American Red Cross in Westchester County. In the mail, you may have seen our county-wide disaster action appeals, or you might have attended one of our dinner galas that pay tribute to community leaders. In addition, the Chapter assists contributors with gift planning that yields tax advantages to the giver from gifts of stock and property, as well as by including the Red Cross in wills and bequests.
Special Events Garner Community Support
County residents keep the local Chapter's "engine" running by contributing to our humanitarian work in many different ways.
The Jerome H. Holland Power of Humanity Dinner
This event is held in February of each year in memory of Dr. Jerome H. Holland, the first African-American chairman of the American Red Cross and a resident of Bronxville. Jerome Holland (1916-1985) was a remarkable leader, who, in his many roles as educator, author, diplomat, business leader and athlete, made a significant impact in this country and abroad. Honorees are chosen each year whom embody one or more of his ideals. A Holland essay contest for high school juniors and seniors is sponsored by Consolidated Edison, and a Youth Leadership Day is held in Dr. Holland's name in January.
The Annual Community of Heroes' Breakfast
This event is held in conjunction with the County of Westchester in honor of local heroes in Westchester who, in the previous year, performed selfless acts of courage and heroism. The categories are law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, educator, Youth Good Samaritan, Adult Good Samaritan and corporation. Entergy Nuclear Northeast is the event's presenting sponsor.
Planned Gifts and Bequests
Our planned giving officer works with donors who want to save on taxes by supporting the Red Cross in their wills, by making gifts of stock or setting up charitable gift annuities or gifts of real estate. To find out ways to leave a lasting legacy, call Barbara Diehl toll free at 1-877-636-9477.
